Everyone is talking Snapchat. Should I be on it? What’s the fuss? Isn’t it just for nudes and eggplant pics?

For personal use, it’s probably a no brainer that you want to download it and follow your friends, but what about for your business? How can you use Snapchat to market your business?

I recently did a workshop on digital marketing for Career Professionals of Canada, a national nonprofit association for career practitioners supporting the Canadian labour market. ❤️
Since then my work with career professionals has extended to talking about equity, diversity and inclusion in not only marketing but also HR practices, newcomer and refugee labour support and much more.

It's been TWO years since I started as an instruct

It's been TWO years since I started as an instructor at the Direct Marketing Association of Northern California! 🎉
I've been teaching Social Media Bootcamp and Social Media Fundamentals year-round to marketing professionals across the US.
Each masterclass has evolved as we dive deeper into what marketers specifically want to learn when it comes to getting started with social media marketing (spoiler alert: not influencers lol) and what their daily struggles are as in-house marketers.

That's who I trained last month in a custom workshop created for the Kneehill Regional Family and Community Support Services.
In *just* one hour, we talked about creating a solid social media strategy, best practices, streamlining the social media management process and focused on recruiting, retaining and rewarding volunteers via social media.
My ONE important takeaway (it's not even social media related):
Make it as easy as possible for someone to sign up to be a volunteer.
Whether that means creating a custom page on your website or even a Google Form with applicable questions, cut out the back-and-forth, requests for emails or phone calls, and just have a simple way someone can sign up or express their interest immediately.

➡️ Have a solid lead generation strategy
➡️ Don't overlook your website
➡️ Have a budget set aside for online ads
Last week I chatted with Christine O'Loughlin from CityNews about the potential block of the platform in the US and how it would effect Canadian businesses and creators.
There's a lot of moving parts to it that I won't unpack, but...
If it removes US users, that's a wholleeeee lotta potential customers lost for Canadian businesses who use the platform for marketing purposes.

Last week I made a quick trip to the Yukon to host a session on social media marketing at the Indigenous Women Entrepreneurs (IWE) event!
I took the opportunity to talk about #socialmedia strategy - why having one is crucial, what's included in the development and how to create one.
While, yes, it's not a super alluring topic, it definitely dictates what businesses do on social media and lays the strong foundation for audience insights and content and it was great fielding questions and having such engaging attendees!
Afterwards I had the chance to check out a product showcase featuring goods created by local Indigenous women businesses and even got to talk crafting with a few attendees.
Thank you to the IWE organizers for such a great event!
