I had the pleasure of being invited to present at The Realtor’s Association of Edmonton’s 5@5 event. The setup was 5 presentations, 5 minutes each with 5 tips. Presenting on social media marketing tips, I talked really fast about:
1. Personal Branding
Personal branding is a MUST. Think about all the real estate agents in your city, think about how they all kind of blend in together and none really stand out. How can YOU stand out amongst them? Why would someone work with you vs a cookie cutter agent? This requires risk and niching yourself, but you will find more success with a strong personal brand.
2. Social media isn’t about you
I get it, salespeople have a mindset that is “sell, sell, sell, promote, promote, promote”. But, remembering that people don’t use social media to get sold to, how can you indirectly market your business without being too promotional? Tip: Content marketing!
3. Plan, plan, plan
Have a strategy and a plan in place. Social media can make you BUSY if you aren’t doing it strategically. Setting up a plan will ensure you know what needs to be done and what will be posted/when.
4. Don’t focus on metrics that don’t matter
Everyone wants to be famous and have a zillion followers… But are those followers based in the area you are licensed? Are they your ideal/target audience? Focus on the quality of followers.
5. Measure or fail
Check your analytics and insights on a consistent basis. See what kind of content is performing and what’s not. Check where the majority of your traffic is coming from on social, focus more on that platform.
